The Inn at San Pancho
The Inn at San Pancho is a hotel that sits on a gentle hill above the fishing village of San Francisco (known locally as San Pancho), Nayarit, Mexico. Our beautiful pool, surrounded by palm trees and hibiscus is now heated!!
Three of our four charming casitas have open floorplans and are decorated with folkart and hand painted furniture, comfortable king sized beds and windows open to the town of San Pancho and the sea beyond
Villa Victoria, the Inn at San Pancho's largest casita, has two bedrooms, a full kitchen, living and dining rooms, hacienda style verandah and ocean view. Casitas Agave and Nopal have identical floorplans, which include a large living/dining space, a well stocked kitchen with fridge, microwave, toaster oven, coffeemaker and two-burner gas stovetop, king bed, large tiled bathroom and spacious verandah. Our smallest casita, the one room Chica, is an idyllic blend of indoor/outdoor living with a queen bed, ocean view and private garden.

Casita Chica
Casita Chica is a one room cottage with an ocean view, queen bed, palapa roof, counter top fridge, coffee maker, and hotplate.. Sleeps 2. A rental property has been built next door to this casita. If occupied, conversations can be heard in Chica, which is why we have reduced the nightly rate. There is no way of predicting when and if it will be an issue, but if you decide to come, we suggest you bring your favorite earplug.

San Pancho’s beach is a mile-long vision, stretched between two ragged cliffs covered in jungle. Our lagoon supports 96 species of birds, attracting birdwatchers, artists, and photographers from all over the world. Fishing boats – called pangas – depart early to grab the morning bounty. The Inn at San Pancho
How far is The Inn at San Pancho from the beach, restaurants and shops?
We are a short, pleasant five minute walk along the town’s main street to the beach. Most of the town’s restaurants, shops and markets are concentrated along Tercer Mundo and the three blocks which intersect it.
Is it necessary to rent a car?
Most of our guests choose to avoid the expense of renting a car in Mexico. We have an excellent local taxi service with both sedans and vans which can accommodate 1 to 8 people four round trip airport transfers. Reservations can be made via e-mail to info@divatours.net. Diva will require name, dates and flight information and will meet you in the arrivals area with a sign with your name on it. San Pancho is about an hour drive from the Puerto Vallarta International Airport. Once here, you can walk to most everything in town. Cabs are available to get you around town for a modest charge.
Can I buy everything I need in San Pancho?
Because we have kitchen facilities, many of our guests choose to stop at Mega on the drive north to San Pancho. For the most part, San Pancho’s two markets and several produce stands have the basics – coffee, tea, juices, vegetables, fruit, soda, alcoholic beverages, milk, sugar, canned goods. Pando fishes every morning, and besides offering deep sea fishing trips, he sells the fresh fish of the day beginning at 3-3:30 in the afternoon, filleted and ready to cook. We have two butchers and two bakeries.
If you like to do your own shopping and want brand name products, we suggest a stop. If you are traveling with Diva, they will take you to the supermarket for an additional 100 pesos and wait while you shop. There are very few brand name cereals or granolas offered in San Pancho. Diet yoghurt, half and half, cold cuts and whole grain sliced breads are also limited here our town markets. Butchers and bakeries at the supermarkets have a much larger selection of meats and pastries.
Is San Pancho Safe?
Our streets and beach are safe for walking day or night, and our community welcomes visitors. Guests often leave with fond memories of the men and women and children they have met during their visit. Some say it is the friendliest place they have ever visited in Mexico, which is as a whole a very amiable country which appreciates its large tourism market. Can we drink the water and is it safe to dine out in Mexico?
All the water at The Inn at San Pancho is purified. In restaurants, people order bottled water. Most of the restaurants and stores in town which sell ice drinks or bags of ice cubes, use purified water. Mexico has grown up in the last decade and for the most part the days of Montezuma’s Revenge have ended.
What about bugs?
During the high season between November and April there are few pests around to bug guests except for no-seeums which haunt the beach after sunset. Still, there is the odd mosquito and recommend you bring repellent along with your suntan lotion and favorite shampoo/conditioner. If you are traveling light, and would rather not be bothered packing toiletries, Mega and the shops in town have large selections of deodorants, hair products, lotions, creams, and repellents. The Inn at San Pancho also has an ever replenished supply of suntan lotions abandoned by departing guests.
What should I pack?
Flip flops, a couple of bathing suits, shorts, t-shirts, a sweater or light jacket for the occasional chilly evening, sneakers for bird watching, hiking or horse back riding, a kindle (we have an extensive selection of books), your laptop (only if you absolutely need to, otherwise feel free to turn off the world), ear plugs and/or headphones (Mexico can be noisy), your cell phone (check with your server before coming), your favorite snack or granola which may not be available here (feel free to check with us first), medications, binoculars, an ATM card, a credit card (not all vendors take AmEX), a camera, sunglasses, I-pod, a pair of jeans or long pants, and a journal just in case you’re moved to record your adventures. The Riviera Nyarit is a Flip Flop Culture without dress codes, button down shirts or ties.
What about money?
There are ATMs at the airport and in San Pancho. There are banks adjacent to Mega which have ATM machines as well, and charge lower fees. No need to change dollars into pesos before coming to Mexico. Though some shops and restuarants continue to support a cash only policy, most accept credit cards.
Directions to the Inn at San Pancho
From the Puerto Vallarta airport it is 25 miles to San Francisco (San Pancho). Take highway 200 north, passing through Mezcales and Bucerias where the road narrows to two lanes.
Note: be careful on this mountain road, people like to pass. A driver with a left turn signal flashing (when there is no obvious left to make) is indicating that he thinks it is safe for you to pass him. Do this with caution.
You will pass through several small towns before coming to a highway sign pointing to Sayulita, the pueblo just before San Pancho. Continue for four more miles.
There is a gated entrance to a condominium complex on the left called Hacienda San Pancho. Pass it and continue on for less than a mile to San Francisco (San Pancho). Pull to the right, make sure road is clear in both lanes, and turn left across the highway onto the town's main street, Tercer Mundo.
Cross over the bridge, and continue to Calle Africa, which is the first right hand street after the soccer field. Go one block on Africa to the first right hand street, Pakistan. There is a small boutique on the corner. Turn right, continue up the short hill to the first left and turn onto Retorno Camboya.
Follow Camboya to the end. The Inn at San Pancho, home of the GataGorda, is the last property on the right. There is a double garage with bright green doors and the entry way is to the right of it. Just ring the bell!
SPANISH TRANSLATION OF DIRECTIONS: Desde el aeropuerto de Puerto Vallarta, se encuentra a 25 millas de San Francisco (San Pancho). Tome la autopista 200 norte, pasando por Mezcales y Bucerias donde el camino se estrecha a dos carriles.

Pasará por varios pueblos pequeños antes de llegar a un cartel de carretera que señala a Sayulita, el pueblo justo antes de San Pancho. Continúa por cuatro millas más.
Hay una entrada privada a un complejo de condominios a la izquierda llamado Hacienda San Pancho. Pásalo y continúa por menos de una milla a San Francisco (San Pancho). Gire a la izquierda en la calle principal de la ciudad, Tercer Mundo.
Cruce el puente y continúe hasta la Calle África, que es la primera calle a mano derecha después del campo de fútbol. Vaya un bloque en África a la primera calle a la derecha, Pakistán. Hay una pequeña boutique en la esquina. Gire a la derecha, continúe por la pequeña colina a la primera a la izquierda y gire hacia Retorno Camboya. Sigue a Camboya hasta el final. El Inn at San Pancho, hogar de GataGorda, es la última propiedad a la derecha. Hay un garaje doble con puertas verdes brillantes y el camino de entrada está a la derecha.
